How to Pray When You're Nervous, Fearful, or Anxious

I think a lot of us women deal with feeling nervous, fearful or anxious.  We're thinkers, analyzers, worriers, emotional, and we lead with our hearts.  But although we can feel nervous, fearful, or anxious initially, we don't have to stay there.  We can learn to trust God with whatever is giving us that knot in our stomach, whatever is keeping us awake at night, whatever makes us start to feel out of control.
October is Prayer Month on my Blog!
I realized that there will always be something in this life that we will make us feel fearful.  We can't take that away, but we can learn day by day, moment by moment to give our fears over to God.  We can learn to trust Him with our hearts and our very lives.  He promises in His Word that we can trust Him.  It's in these fearful times that our faith becomes REAL, or it is just something we do on Sunday mornings.  Do we BELIEVE Him and trust Him?

2 ways I switch my mind from fear to trusting Him:

  1. I will grab my journal and write at the top - "God, I trust you with...".
Then I just list out everything on my mind that I'm nervous about.
I really try to think - WHY am I feeling nervous?  And then I write it out and pray over each thing saying, "God I trust you with ___."  Sometimes throughout the day the fear over that issue that I already prayed about comes BACK!  :/  So I state my prayer again, "God I trust you with _____."  I state this prayer over and over until I've let it go.

2.  I will open Psalms and read through His promises about trusting Him.

I have a ton of these verses underlined in my Bible.  I have many of them written on the front and back covers of my journal.  I re-write them and re-read them many times - I LOVE these verses!  It reminds me of the truth - that I can trust God without wavering!  I wrote out a few of my favorite verses about trusting God for any of you that would like to print this off and use these verse for yourself!

Thanks for reading and I would love to hear what helps you to turn and trust God during fearful moments or seasons of your life!  God is real and He helps us with the real issues in our lives!

Love & Blessings,
Allison

A Simple D.A.I.L.Y. Prayer

I'm naming October official "PRAYER MONTH" for my blog!  This past year has been life changing for me, and a major reason is because of prayer and all that praying big and praying with determined hope and belief does inside of a person!  Personally, I don't pray solely for what God can give me (although He loves to give His children great blessings!).  I mostly pray  because He fills me and I love Him.  I want so badly to be close to Him!  Prayer has changed me.

So this month I will be sharing a lot of my personal testimony about prayer, as well as just practical tips on how to pray, prayer routines, etc. Would that be helpful to anyone?  I'm always open to hearing your testimonies and tips too!  We're in this together!

Today I'm sharing with you a great daily prayer that my Pastor taught us.  I keep this on a white index card in my Bible and pray it every morning.  I love it! It's super simple, but gets me immediately focused on JESUS and not just my requests.  I love this little prayer because I feel like it's opening my heart up to Him - and I almost always do my prayer time in the morning so I start my day filled and focused on Jesus.  I can't recommend this enough (praying in the morning), it makes a HUGE difference in my attitude for the remainder of the day! :)

Here is the simple prayer using the DAILY acronym, so it's easy to remember!

Although this is a short and simple prayer list, I really try to focus on the words and not mindlessly recite them.  I want them to mean something, to not just do it like a checklist.

Also, as I pray, I specifically name anything that is directly applicable to each letter.  For example, when I get to the letter I, (the prayer is, "Jesus, I'll try") part, I specifically name something that I feel like God is leading me to try or do.

Or the when I get to the letter Y, (the prayer is "Jesus, I'll trust you,") part, I will list (usually in a journal) specific things that I'm worried or anxious about, or specific decisions I need guidance with. And then I say it over and over throughout the day as those anxious thoughts pop back up in my mind, "Jesus, I'll trust you,".

As you can see in these examples, I always try to get as specific as possible - it helps me to not just "recite" prayer, but instead, to apply it to my here and now situations.  I want to connect my faith and prayer to whatever is going on in my life.  We want our faith to not only be a "church thing", but to become an every-day part of who we are.  Daily prayer and communication with God is a KEY to this...and this simple D.A.I.L.Y. acronym is a great way to start!

I hope this is helpful!  Feel free to print off or save to your phone so you can pray D.A.I.L.Y. too! :)

Love & Blessings,
Allison

Jesus

Read all of Luke 7 and the Woman who was forgiven much...

As I read Luke 7, about this woman, it was like I could feel the story all around me.  I could picture her bursting in, desperate and looking for Jesus.  I could picture the Pharisee's appalled, judgmental faces as she came into their perfect home.  And mostly, I could picture and feel the way Jesus spoke so tenderly and lovingly to her.  It was like everyone else and every politically correct "social norm" was gone from His mind - all He saw was her.

A humbled daughter of God.
I could imagine her heavy, long-time burden dropping from her heart, and freedom filling her instead.  I could imagine the sense of security and belonging she felt as Jesus stood up for her in front of important people. I could imagine she felt so safe, so willing to lay her life in His hands, for He had taken away her hardness, her humiliation, her regret and guilt, her stigma.  He loved her purely in spite of it all.

And even now, in my own life, I love how Jesus speaks to me and knows me and loves me purely in spite of all my faults.
I love how Jesus knows and loves us specifically as women.
He knows we are different from men - He made us that way and He speaks to us in a way that we can connect and feel Him.

He speaks tenderly.  He upholds us.  He knows our strengths, our tendencies, our weaknesses, our neediness, our insecurities, our manipulative ways, our anxieties, our nagging, our common struggles  - He knows IT ALL.  And yet,
He loves us perfectly.
He never gets tired of us or annoyed by us.  He never thinks, "Ugh, she's soooo needy!  Why is she so moody?!"  I'm so thankful that God loves us perfectly.  We can always always always turn to Him.  We can talk to Him about anything.  He will fill us, strengthen us, make us secure, make us strong, make us able, give us energy, give us forgiveness and freedom, and enable us to hold our head up high.

And, wow, we are so thankful.  We love you, Jesus!

Love & Blessings,
Allison

How to Be Courageous When Our Kids Make Us Nervous!

This is one of those topics that I don't even know how to exactly start the post...or even how to title it.  So...I'm gonna just dive right in.  The main thoughts I want to portray is what do we do as parents, specifically mothers, when something goes wrong, when something fearful happens, etc...how do we react in front of our children?  Because don't our kids learn more from what we do as opposed to what we say?

For example, I have taught my son the Bible Verse, "Be strong and Courageous, for God is with you,".  He has memorized it and I have him recite it whenever he is scared at night, or has his feelings hurt, or wants to give up on a task he's working on.  I'm trying to help him learn to apply the Word of God, the TRUTH to his every day, normal life.  And so that's great...I'm telling and teaching him little "lessons".

BUT, what I believe is his real teacher is the observation he has of me when something tough hits me.  What do I do?  How do I respond?  Do I lash out?  Do I panic?  Do I flip-out, freak-out, or act all crazy, therefore creating a lot of insecurity in my children?  Or, do I stay calm?  Do I stop and think?  Do I show him by my body language that things are secure and ok for us, that we'll be just fine?  Do I recite the Word of God and His Truth to that situation?  Do I trust God in that moment of every day, normal life?

So let me be honest with you and tell you why this topic even came up.  This weekend my husband was really sick, so Mommy was in charge more than normal.  We went to my nephew's 6-year old birthday party on Saturday afternoon and at the party my son (4 1/2 years old) was super whiny and pouty when he didn't get his way (could be anything - like not getting the exact piece of cake that had the frosting on exactly where he wanted it.  And gift time was hard because his cousin got a lot of Star Wars gifts and he desperately wanted them... tough lessons every kid learns along the way!).  But with this whiny and pouty-ness, he also started saying things like, "No one likes me!", and "I'm not special!", etc.  By the time we left I was SUPER upset and exhausted, and because my husband was sick and wasn't there to strongly help my son through his emotional roller-coaster, I felt even more exhausted because I felt whatever I was trying to do was not working and that I couldn't control my son and snap him out of his self-absorption.  My heart was burdened BIG TIME because of my son's words.  Especially the "I'm not special" one.  He later told my husband the same thing at bed time and then we were both majorly upset.  I could barely sleep that night.  I think I literally prayed off and on the entire night for my son.  I woke up early before our baby woke up to read the Bible and to pray even more.  For me, when something goes wrong with my family, God keeps me AWAKE and everything else goes on the back-burner...and I pray my head off.  And maybe my son's little "I'm not special" statement seems trite to some people, but you see, my son is adopted and I continually pray for him that he won't give in to any lies about him "not belonging" or any other LIES about being adopted.  So honestly, I felt kinda panicked...hence the not sleeping and praying all night/morning.

So in the early morning during my quiet time with God, He showed me something.

He showed me that as our children display insecurities and emotional ups and downs - that I can TRUST God with them and I personally don't need to also become insecure and show extreme emotion.  That yes, I need to pray and talk to my children, but no, I don't need to panic and I certainly don't need to show my children that I'm panicking or feeling upset.  I believe that if I consistently have an emotional response to my son's emotions, it could create major manipulation from him, it could escalate the situation and make him more emotional and nervous, and overall it just would not be a good example of how to take my fears to God.  Wouldn't my stability help to give my son confidence and security?  Isn't the opposite true, as well?  Wouldn't my personal strength in an emotional situation help to de-escalate his fears and teach him how to remain strong and stable through hard times? Again, if I had a  personal anxiety response to these things, wouldn't it teach him the opposite?  In conclusion, God basically taught me to calm down. :)  To be strong and courageous and to not panic in front of my kids.  They're watching and their learning from my example.

I do not, not, not have this all together.  I'm probably most insecure in all the different roles of my life, as a mother... probably because it's what I care most about and I understand the responsibility of the role.

I pray God would help me increasingly to respond to my children with strength and wisdom.  I pray God would increasingly help me to come to Him with my fears, that I wouldn't take them on soooo much.  I pray that God would increasingly help me to trust Him.  I pray that God would increasingly make me a strong woman of God, and therefore a wise and strong example for my children.

Christian moms, let's do this together! Thanks for reading and letting me share what God is doing in my normal, every day life.  I'd love to hear any responses or advice from other moms or grandmas on this topic!

Love & Blessings,
Allison

Joy Day: Quiet Time, A First Field Trip, "Up", and Pumpkin Granola!

After a few very busy weeks, I was feeling super...exhausted (can anyone relate?).  So today, I claimed as my JOY day.  I decided to pretty much do anything and everything that were my favorites to rejuvenate my spirit - I personally find these days to be necessary every once in a while so that I can be more productive on a daily/weekly basis!

Here's what my "Joy Day" looked like:

- Morning (before kids woke up):  Quiet time with God and coffee!  I love alone time...especially with God.  He renews my spirit and fills me to take on the day.  I hate rushing around in the morning, so a quiet, alone, peaceful time with God (and don't forget the coffee!) is a must for me!

- Late Morning - I went on a field trip with my son's preschool class!  This was his very first field trip ever!  I was so excited!  I didn't plan ANY work calls or ANY other obligations the entire day!  It was designated Mommy time - yay!  We even went to a local farm and apple orchard.  The kids learned how bees pollinated the trees, a bloom is created on the tree as a result, and then an apple.  I'm not sure how much a 4-year old can understand that, but they seemed really into it! Ha!  Then, we all picked apples!  They were super crisp and crunchy!  We later went into the apple store (not to be confused with Apple Computer store...that's literally what I thought it was when I first saw the sign.  Ahhhhh...yeah.)  Anyway, I picked up "1 peck" of Honey crisp apples (my fave!), some pumpkin donuts (another fall fave!), and some candy corn taffy for my son! I can't wait to make some apple crisp!

- Afternoon - My baby girl pretty much went straight to her nap, and my son and I played and watch the beginning of the movie, "Up"!  Such an adorable movie!!!  I can barely take this beautiful scene of Carl & Ellie's life and love!  It is so moving!  Life moves so quickly!

- Late Afternoon - I cooked and cleaned.  I seriously loved this  because I felt like I was taking care of my family!  And I definitely don't take enough time to clean!!!  For our dinner I made a super simple chicken meal with sweet and gold potatoes, onion and apples - get the recipe here!  My husband took a bite and said, "Delicious!" :)

But what I'm super pumped about, I also made a pumpkin granola.  And I actually created the recipe!  I am NOT the creative type when it comes to crafts and recipes, so I am pretty impressed with myself, if I can say so! :) I'll post my recipe below - it's really good and my hubby loves it!

- Later Afternoon - Did a work call, and then my baby girl woke up and I fed her and smiled at her!  She is seriously the sweetest thing!

- Evening - Family Time!  Which consists of dinner, finishing "Up", and taking a walk outside! Love!

My cup is filled and overflowing!  Bring on the rest of the week!  God will always supply exactly what we need - whether it be something BIG or something ordinary, like energy and rejuvenation!

What do you do to rejuvenate?  What brings you joy?
-----------------

Allison's Pumpkin Granola recipe:
Preheat oven to 250 degrees.

- 2 cups old fashioned oats
- 1/2 c peanut butter
- 2 scoops of vanilla whey protein (or use whatever flavor/kind you prefer!)
- 1/3 c honey
- 1/2 c pumpkin
- 2 t vanilla
- 1 t cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg
- 1/3 c of dark chocolate chips (I only get the Girardelli brand!  Amazing!)

Mix all of the ingredients (except the chocolate chips) together in a large bowl.  Spread foil over a large sheet tray and spray with  oil (I used coconut oil).  Then spread the mixed granola onto sheet tray and cook for 45 minutes.  I set the timer for every 15 min and took out the granola and stirred/turned it over slightly.  After it was done, I poured into a large bowl and crumbled it up and then added the dark chocolate chips!

I'll add peaches, raspberries, etc or dried fruit to the mix as I feel like!  YUM!  Enjoy and let me know what YOU think if you make it!  :)  Be sure to tag me if you post it on Instagram!

Love & Blessings & JOY,
Allison

CHOSEN

There is something so awesome about the word "chosen".

When I think of this word
- CHOSEN -
a rush of security, confidence, and power comes into my heart.
To be chosen... it's special. It's actually more than just special - to be chosen means you are wanted, sought after, pursued, loved, cherished.

Today, this word came into my mind as I looked down at my tiny little baby girl.  She is now 6 weeks old!  7 weeks ago, she was literally a prayer, a desire of my heart, a constant plea to God.  Today, she's in my arms staring up at me, her eyes connecting with mine as she drinks her bottle, her toes wiggling, her little hands trying to get into her mouth, along with the bottle!  She is chosen.  God picked her up and chose her for our family - a miracle we all call adoption.  God chose me to be her mommy, for my husband to be her daddy, and for Josiah to her big brother...forever.

When I think of my children and their adoption stories, I imagine God hearing our prayers, and searching the earth, and then... choosing.  Choosing Josiah.  Choosing Abigail.  I imagine Him breathing over them, "You are chosen to be in this family.  I want YOU in a Christian home.  I want YOU to know me from a young age.  YOU have been chosen for a special and great purpose."

And what about you?  God chooses us to be HIS children, part of HIS forever family too.  Adoption is such a miraculous picture of this.  When we accept His Son, Jesus, as our Savior, then He becomes our Father too.  We're taken from our current situation, and become part of something new.  As God's children, He gives us His name, His heart, His desires, His will.  He teaches us and trains us as our Father.
We belong.  We're adopted.

Today, rest in knowing that if you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, then you are chosen and adopted into God's family!  You are wanted.
You are sought after.
You are pursued.
You are loved.
You are family.
You are cherished by our perfect God.

My baby girl, Abigail and I.

Love & Blessings,
Allison

5 Important Factors Women Don't Often Consider While Dating

~To My Single Sisters~

My husband and I when we were dating.  He asked me to be his girlfriend on this evening out! :)
As girls, we love romance!  There is something deep within us that desires to feel beautiful, to fall in love and to be loved.  :)  I've now been married for just over 7 years and through this time, there are many factors that I realized I never in a million years would have thought about or considered when dating and looking for my future husband.  But these crucial factors are seriously important and will take you through ups and downs, good and bad times, happy and mad feelings, and set you on a realistic path for a solid marriage.  I thought I'd share these "takeaways" with you!

NOTE:  I will not (in this post) discuss the following attributes you want when dating in this specific paragraph:
-He is a solid Christian (before he met you),
-He is trustworthy (all the time),
-He is kind and respectful to you (including he does not pressure you sexually).
If he is missing any of these "Duh!!!" attributes, then stop reading this post and break up with him.  (said with love) :)  For ALL Christian girls, these are hands-down, a given in any boy you consider dating!

As you consider dating/courting a boy, please take note of these crucial factors:
1 - Does he fight for you?
This term can be totally over-romanticized.  What I'm talking about is does he fight for your relationship when it is on the line?  Does he have the courage to face his issues that are holding him back from moving forward in your relationship?  Does he have the courage and humility to put his pride aside, when needed, and do whatever it takes to fix things and work through problems?  Because when you are married...there will be pressures, hard times (and good!), annoyances, mistakes made, etc. You want to know that when (not if) these things happen, that he will have the courage to stand up for you and your life that you've built.  You want to know that he is willing to do whatever it takes to fight for his family and to be the MAN that you and your future children can trust. Again, it's not IF hard times will come, it's WHEN.  This is life and be sure you build YOURS with a man who is courageous and will fight for you!

2 - Does he work hard and financially provide?
Maybe this is a controversial factor to some people.  I've heard it said that it doesn't matter how much money he makes, as long as there is love.  While this is true to a certain extent...let me tell you that 5 years (or however many years you choose!) after you're married and you have a couple of babies staring up at you...you're gonna want a solid income.  You're going to want a man that you can trust will work extra and work harder if needed to provide for your children.  Believe me, you will look at those precious children, and you'll want them to have the soccer lessons, the Children's Museum Pass, the vacation to Disney World, their room decorated in their favorite character.  I'm just being real.  And yes, there is a line between wanting more and more and more (spoiling and almost idolizing our kids), and wanting to give them a full and fun childhood.  I often have to catch myself and ask God to help me simply be content with all the MANY blessings I already have!  Yes!  But, I also think it's important to have a husband that will step out of his comfort zone to financially provide for the NEEDS of his family.  Obviously, we (girls) can take a part in this, as well!

3 - Does he have Christian, male friends?
As women, we will naturally want to talk, lecture, explain and "remind" our husband of changes he needs to make.  We'll give him valid reasons, sometimes beg and sometimes simply pray.  Even the BEST of men will do things, at times, that we disagree with and/or worry us.  So let me tell you...the general TALKING and EXPLAINING that we do as women, very rarely works.  Sometimes ALL we can literally do is pray.  I often pray that God would somehow speak through my husband's friends, or a male leader that he respects.  For whetever reason, there will be times when your husband is not willing to hear YOU.  This is when you will be SO thankful that he has strong, Godly, male friends who will give him the RIGHT advice, who will guide him back to his family, who will pray with him about "guy issues" and strengthen him to do the right thing.  This is HUGE.  There is something so powerful about a band of brothers...if your boyfriend does not have Godly (not just nice or church-going, but GODLY) close friends around him, beware.  If he DOES have this, your future self will be soooooo grateful and find such security in this.

4 - Does he have appropriate boundaries with other females?
Both of you want to GUARD you marriage and your relationships.  Does he need attention (do YOU?) from others?  When you get married - you are each other's best friend.  BEST FRIEND.  You come to each other first with good news, bad news, emotions, inside jokes, outings, fun, physical tough (duh), and just everything that a best friend would do (I tell my hubby that we're "best friends with benefits" - lol!).  These listed attributes and more should not be shared at all with others of the opposite sex.  Maybe some people think I'm too strict or a kinda crazy, but I don't care.  I don't care what "other people" think, I care about protecting my marriage for the long haul.  I care about creating a legacy for my children and for God.  And in this world today, there is toooooo much temptation, so I just set strict boundaries.

5 - Does he have some kind of desires and goals for the future?
Are you on the same page for your future?  Are you a goal oriented person, and he's not?  Do you look toward your future and want a certain type of lifestyle (and it's OK if you do) - is he in sync with that vision?  Again, don't look just at looks and charm in a man, because a few years down the road you truly will want to build a LIFE for your family.  I've seen girls get VERY frustrated and lose respect for their husband because they are driven and goal-oreinted and he's just not.  As a married couple, you want to be a TEAM - not on opposing teams!

6 - Is he respectful to your family?
I have seen previews for many teen movies where the boy is not liked by the father of the daughter... and they fight and the boyfriend like runs away with the daughter.  It all looks romantic, but it's not.  A man should not bring a wedge between a girl and her family (especially a girl and her father).  This is not a good sign.  It's not respectful of the girl, and creates drama and pain for the girl long-term.  Instead, a boyfriend should respect a girl's family and support her parents.  He should become a part of the family and form loving relationships with her parents.  This brings SO much more peace to you and your future!  Don't let the love songs and movies fool you!

Marriage is beautiful and amazing - it's wonderful to build your life with someone you can trust with your future and with your future children.  Choose wisely and pray fervently!

Xoxo,
Allison

After You Have Suffered, He Will...

1 Peter 5:10 (Amplified Version)

Now the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will personally restore you, establish, strengthen, and support you after you have suffered a little.  The dominion belongs to Him forever.  Amen

The Myth About the Bad Boy

Sorry, ladies, this is not a post about Ryan Gosling.  Lol!!!!

I put this picture of Ryan Gosling from "The Notebook" because I think this is every woman's dream man (one definition of dream = an unrealistic or self-deluding fantasy. Haha!) and mostly dream situation.  And not that I want to crush anyone's dreams...but sometimes I think that it's time for us girls to wake up.  Don't be mad at me!!! (sweet smile!)

I have to first state that this is my favorite part (pic above) of The Notebook! :)  I mean, after a Summer fling many years ago, this amazing guy is still pining after his true love.  When she comes back to see him (after years of zero communication), she finds that he is still desperately in love with her, is somewhat depressed with out her, and has actually built literally every part of his current life around her and hoping she'll return.  He even has grown out a beard because he just doesn't care as much about anything, including what he looks like, without her in his life (lol!).  Isn't that what we want?  A man who will forever and always, no matter what, be head-over-heels in love with us...almost depressed without us? We'll all answer "Yes!!!!" if we're honest.  Let's be clear - there is a reason why The Notebook is such a popular movie among women!

NOW - please hear me - I am not being cynical.  But what I want to share from my heart with single girls, is that The Notebook storyline is not real.  And what I mean by that, is for the most part (there are few exceptions), the rough "bad boy" in real life  that we are considering throwing our dignity, our virginity, our upbringing, our religion away for... he does not turn out like Ryan Gosling in The Notebook.  Yes, there are a very few exceptions where the bad boy turns around and becomes a good guy.  But mostly, in real life, the bad boy does not change and become the faithful man of our dreams.  In fact, 99.9% of the time, he doesn't every change and instead leaves us feeling ashamed and regretful.

Girls - I wish I could hold your hands, look into your eyes and plead with you.  Hold on to your dignity.  Do not wish it away for a guy who excites you, but you can not fully trust with your heart. Don't look for just charm, sexual attraction and only a feeling.  It has to go deeper than that.  Don't even just look for if he is a "nice guy" (some bad boys know how to turn it on and act super nice and charming around adults, but girls, you should know when it's an act!).  The truth is - it really doesn't matter that he's "a nice guy".  It doesn't matter that he acts polite around your grandma.  Who is he on the inside?  Is he someone to trust with your heart for the long haul?

Here are some questions to ask yourself when considering a boy to date (these aren't a definite checklist or anything, just some questions to make a point and to provoke some thoughts):

  • Does he value you enough to not pressure you physically?
  • Does he treat you as a treasure and not a conquest?  (Doesn't brag to his friends or try to see "how far" he can get with you physically.)
  • Is he okay with getting to know you in a friendship without physical touch?
  • Does he have courage to stand up for what is right?  Does he have courage to make needed changes?  Will he fight for you?
  • Does he have friends (male) that you trust are good & helpful for him, and not getting him into trouble?  This is a BIIIIGGGGG deal!  In a marriage, you will need and pray for other wise voices, besides yours, to speak into his life!
  • Is he dependable?
  • Is he responsible financially?  Is he going somewhere with his goals?
  • Does he attend church without you or he's been attending before you were in the picture?  What are his main interests and passions?  Is God a part of that (again, before you)?
  • He doesn't have to be perfect (how many young men are???), but where is his HEART?  Does he have a heart for God?  Is he convicted of his sin?  Does he humble himself before God and YOU when he messes up?
  • Does he have a relationship with God?  A strong one? You need to know that when he messes up (and he will! And so will we!), that although he may not respond to you and what you're saying, although he may not be changing right away...you know and can trust that God will GET HIM and GOD will change him! :)  Knowing that your man's heart is in the right place with God is a must!
Believe me, several years from now,  when you have kids and they need not only love and attention, but you want to give them a trip to the Zoo, throw a fun birthday party, to sign them up for a sport team, or get them piano lessons...all those things we don't always think about while we're dating, you want to know that your man is dependable and you can count on him to show up, to be involved and to help grow your financials needs!  You want to know that you can trust him, that he's receiving wise council from Godly friends, that he has boundaries at work, that he prays for his family...I could go on.  At that point, when you look at those precious children and the family you're building together, you won't care that he's charming or has Ryan Gosling's beard.  Lol!  You will want a life that is full of opportunity and experiences for your family!  You will want a life with a man you can trust.

So, girls, keep your dignity and keep your standards.  Know what you want and stick to it.  Ask for advice from Godly, older women!  Keep YOUR mind and YOUR heart close to Jesus.  He will lead you to a man with a heart for God who will cherish you, uplift you, empower you, keep you safe, and together give you a blessed and grateful life and legacy!

Find a man you can trust to build a LIFE with!

The Voice in Your Head that Says, "You are not enough..."

Have you ever heard that voice in your head saying, "You aren't doing enough." or "You should be doing more." or  "IF you were more ____, you'd be better."?

Just being real - I've definitely dealt with these thoughts A LOT.  I am super hard on myself and often beat myself up.   In fact a few months ago, these thoughts were consuming me and completely discouraging me to the point that I was filled with anxiety about it.  I felt I was letting God down, that maybe He was even disappointed in me.  Finally, I voiced these thoughts to my husband. Through him, God spoke to me and I had a MAJOR turning point.  My husband told me that he had been listening to a podcast sermon and the pastor had said the following:

When GOD speaks, He gives loving specifics.  When the Enemy speaks, He is discouragingly vague.

Whoa.  It hit me like a ton of bricks as I listened and considered what my hubby had shared.  Was this true?  Were the thoughts in my head specific?  Or were they vague?  Was I listening and believing the wrong voice?  And as I considered it, I realized - wow, it's soooooo true! GOD - he speaks to us with specifics and he speaks to move us toward a direction of healing and freedom.  The thoughts I was having were definitely not specific and definitely not helpful, and definitely were causing me anxiety, not freedom. Those thoughts were not from God.
I always want to be “real” and bring God’s word into every day, real-life situations.  Let me give you some REAL LIFE EXAMPLES of the "voices in our heads" that we hear and want to discern WHO is speaking.

Real Life Examples of how God might speak in specifics:
    - I (meaning God) want you to be more patient with your husband.  When he asks for forgiveness, remember how I've forgiven you and then, forgive him.
    - The woman across the street needs a friend.  Go talk with her (I've personally felt God tell me to make a specific baked good and take it to my neighbors.  But that is "me" and God knows that baking is natural to me and something I'm good at.  For someone else, the specific may be different!).
    - Tell your husband that you're proud of him today.  Let him know that you are thankful for his faithfulness to you and your family.  (See how specific God is?!?  So cool!)
    - Recently, my sister, Erica, texted me a Bible verse out of the blue.  She was responding to God's specific voice that she felt in her heart.  The verse was exactly something I needed to hear (it was about having courage...and I needed it for a specific situation going on at the time).

Real Life Examples of how Satan might speak in vague-ness: - You need to do more for your husband. You need to do more for your family.  You need to be more for them.  You need to make more for them.  You need to provide more, you need to.......Ah!  (No SPECIFICS as to what exactly you need "to do"...just guilt.)
    - Look at all you have as a Christian - why aren't you doing more?  Why aren't you further in your faith?  Why do you keep messing up?  You call yourself a Christian?  You should be doing more!  If you were a real Christian, you would. None of these words are guiding toward a specific change.  They're discouraging because you want to be/do more, but you don't know what or how! Do you see how the specifics in the first examples are true to God's character - loving, slow to anger (patient), etc.?  They point us to what specifically we should do NOW.  His words give us hope and direction, not discouragement and stress.  His words bring us freedom.  His words bring positive change from a loving Father.

What a break through!  Does this resonate with any of you?  I hope my break-through can encourage some of you and help us to recognize when our thoughts are from God, and when they're not!

Thank you, God, for your unending love and patience with me.  You never grow weary of me.  You never get plain tired of me and the dumb things I do.  You graciously and specifically point me to the right path.   You make me new.  You pull me UP and give me hope.  Thank you.
